Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching, 9 for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. - Proverbs 1:8-9
What is a mother’s wisdom? When I think of my own mother’s wisdom, I think of how she was wise to protect me. She protected me as best she knew how from the dangers and hazards of life in the housing projects of the Bronx.
It’s that wisdom that God gives to mothers in loving their children.
I didn’t appreciate it much at the time but definitely can understand now why she was so overprotective. I can appreciate and understand the wisdom of why she wanted to hold onto her youngest daughter for fear of losing me when I was a young adult trying to find myself.
Ironically now I find myself as a mother to a teenage daughter and that I too am like my mom and want to hold on to her.
That’s a mother’s love for you.
It’s that wisdom that God gives to mothers in loving their children. Love that is not always perfect, but loving nonetheless.
The scriptures tell us that wisdom is from God. His wisdom is pure and peaceful, gentle, full of mercy, and good fruits and it’s not partial or hypocritical. As a mother, this is the kind of wisdom that I strive for.
We need that kind of wisdom to parent our children so that it will be a crown of grace upon them as they grow older.

So, as I reflect this year on Mother’s Day, I want to thank the Lord for my mom who went on to be with Him 15 years ago this year. I want to thank her for the wisdom she imparted to me on the importance of loving and protecting your children.
It may not have always been what I wanted, but it was what I needed.
This Mother’s Day I encourage you to thank God for your mother. Thank her for the wisdom she has passed on to you.
Be encouraged!
Stephanie
Prayer: Father, thank you for your love through the gift of our mothers. Thank you that if we lack wisdom, we can ask you for Your wisdom and You will give it without measure. In Jesus Name! Amen!
