Do you remember the iconic line from A Few Good Men, by Jack Nicholson, “You can’t handle the truth”? Well, if we’re honest, with ourselves as humans, we can’t.
Actually, it’s not so much a question can we handle the truth?… it’s more a matter of,
we just don’t want the truth.
One of the most controversial statements surrounding Christianity is what Jesus told His disciples about Himself in John 14:6.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. -
This statement still ruffles the feathers of people from all walks of life regardless of race, creed or political party. Even within “Christian” circles, there are some that don’t completely hold to this tenet.
I came across a quote by the German philosopher, Friedrich Nietzsche on truth:
Sometimes people don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed. ~ Friedrich Nietzsche

We live in a society that is allergic to truth when it comes to God and Scripture.
Although Nietzsche rejected Christianity, his statement ironically holds some truth in it. I say this because, most people don’t want to hear the truth about anything they don’t agree with. We live in a society that is allergic to truth when it comes to God and Scripture.
This is played out on a larger scale in when it comes to the conflict with marriage and family being between a man and woman. Or as it relates to the rights of the unborn.
In essence, our society has thrown out the baby with the bath regarding moral and absolute truth and exchanged it for a lie.
Paul hit the nail on the head about people not wanting to hear TRUTH in speaking to the church in Rome in the Book of Romans Chapter 1. Here are a couple of his observations:
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen
One thing is for certain, if a person’s faith is in the finished work of Christ, and what He did for all humanity on the Cross, and that’s an illusion, then we are of all people most to be pitied.
What about you? Can You Handle The Truth? Do you want the truth found in this world, or the Truth found in the Word by The Word.
In the end it will be the only Truth that matters.
Be Encouraged!
