The annual Good Riddance Day took place in NYC this week. It’s an event where people come together in Times Square to symbolically let go of their problems before New Year’s Eve. But I think Good News Day would be a more appropriate title.
Granted, there is some Biblical truth to this symbolic event. At least in the sense of not looking back at the past.
Paul tells us in Philippians 3:13-14 to forget those things that are behind us and move forward.
With that being said, the holiday season is a reminder of the Good News of God. The good news of how He brought Himself to our human level sacrificially for our eternal good.
Remembering that the Lord forgets our sins past, present and future should make everyday a Good News day for us.
For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” - Jeremiah 31:34
The Lord gives us plenty of reasons to say good riddance and leave our past behind. But it for us to move forward in Him, and to look for the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
This 2024 New Year, despite the challenges you may face, stay in expectation that God will do a new thing!
