The next Powerball drawing is estimated at $473 Million! With a cash value of $255.7 Million! You could do and buy a whole lot with that kind of money. However, some things money can’t buy.
A passage in Song of Songs illustrates this point well.
Many waters cannot quench love, Nor can the floods drown it. If a man would give for love All the wealth of his house, It would be utterly despised. - Song of Songs 8:7
The Shulamite woman expresses her undying love for her beloved, Solomon. This is a love that cannot be quenched or drowned out.
Their love is so strong that in the previous verse she states it’s “as strong as death”. (Song of Songs 8:6)
Friends, that’s some serious kind of love.
Although the verse seems very poetic and lovey dovey, it really speaks a truth.
Some things you can’t buy, but you need
So many people are seeking love to the point of doing things that are literally destroying them. But I think the verse beautifully contrasts God’s love for us.
Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross was a love that literally was as “strong as death”.
There is a longing that is in every human heart. Solomon tells us in Ecclesiastes how God has placed eternity in our hearts (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Love is an eternal longing and need for all of us regardless of your race, religion, or financial status.
Some things you can’t buy, but you need. You can’t buy love, but you need it.
Here’s something else you can’t buy….your peace. No one can buy the eternal peace of salvation that is only supplied through Christ.
I’m grateful to the Lord for how He provides that love and peace for us through His Son Jesus Christ! It’s free and it’s available without any buyer’s remorse!
Be Encouraged,
Stephanie
