I love the Capital One commercials where the tagline goes “what’s in your wallet”. I happen to have their card in my wallet. However, what’s in your wallet, doesn’t matter in eternity.
What does matter is our relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s a truth that every human being will have to answer.
But, you can’t have a relationship with someone you don’t know. Sadly, even with believers this is true.
We need to ask ourselves is “what’s in your schedule?” Are we scheduling time to cultivate a relationship with the Lord?
I think Jesus makes it clear in Matthew 4:4 the priority He places on our time spent with Him:
But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
Jesus acknowledges our human need for physical food. But He also points out our human need for spiritual food that only He can provide.
As we eat the Words that proceed from the mouth of God, we’re cultivating and strengthening our relationship with Him.
When we prioritize time with God, we can know Him better. Scripture tells us that as we draw near to God, He’ll draw near to us.
It’s true for everyone that what’s in your wallet doesn’t matter. What and Who you’re spending time with does matter.
Be Encouraged!
