“But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was locked. 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside, calling, ‘Lord! Lord! Open the door for us!’ - Matthew 25:10-11
Our time in life is limited. We’re reminded of this everyday as young and old perish from the earth. At the end of your life will you be ready?
Holy Week, is an excellent opportunity for us to revisit where we are spiritually.
Jesus shows us the importance of being ready for His return in the Parable of the Ten Bridesmaids.
Here you have 10 bridesmaids waiting for the bridegroom. Five of them were ready to greet the bridegroom and had their lamps filled with oil. Five of them did not.
Jesus used this parable to demonstrate the relationship between Christ and His church.
In this case, it’s a timely and universal message not only for the church, but for humanity.
Why?
Well to be blunt, none of us will make it out alive.
Every one of us on earth has an expiration date.
And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment - Hebrews 9:27
But, the good news is, God made the way of escape for all of us in eternity through the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross (John 3:16).
Now is the time for those who call themselves Christ followers and those who don’t to repent for the Kingdom of God, truly is at hand.
The Lord is extending a measurement of His grace and mercy to all in this tumultuous and dark season.
And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely. - Revelation 22:17
So what will your answer to the Bridegroom be? Will you be ready?
Prayer of Repentance: Father forgive me for my sins. Wash me and cleanse me by the Blood of Jesus, Your Son, in Jesus name! Amen!
